These movements share common themes, viewing the sources of these crises in <a href=\"https:\/\/social-ecology.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/climate-justice.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/social-ecology.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/climate-justice-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>institutions\u00a0 of hierarchy and domination, including capitalist structures of racism and colonialism. The extraction of resources and exploitation of marginalized populations for food and energy production, especially in the Global South, are major contributors to worldwide environmental and social degradation.<\/p>\r\n<p>This course will offer a Social Ecology perspective on the background and potential of the climate and food justice movements to resist further damage from fossil fuels and agribusiness dominance, while building ecologically harmonious and equitable food and energy systems that can restore soil health, biodiversity, and climate stability.<\/p>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each segment will highlight the leadership of frontline communities in shifting the paradigm towards the fundamental principles of non-hierarchy, direct <a href=\"https:\/\/social-ecology.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/food-justice-is-social-justice-alannah-dove.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/social-ecology.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/food-justice-is-social-justice-alannah-dove-275x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>democracy, and unity in diversity.
